Man Utd linked with Portsmouth keeper James

Manchester United are being linked with Portsmouth goalkeeper David James.

The Daily Express says Portsmouth are willing to sell James for the right amount but they could be ready to allow him to leave on loan to get him off the wage bill, with the club in a parlous financial situation.

Stoke City are in talks for the England international.

However, Manchester United have also been monitoring James’s situation, with Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson looking for back-up to first choice Edwin van der Sar, who has returned to training after taking time off to care for his sick wife, but who is still not match fit.
