Man Utd legend Stepney: Van der Sar key to title bid

Manchester United European Cup winner Alex Stepney says Edwin van der Sar is key to their title bid this season.

Stepney, also a former goalkeeping coach with Manchester City, said: “With Edwin back and some of the missing defenders returning, I can see United not only going on to win the Carling Cup but also making a big push for the title and the Champions League.”

“He’s probably the last of what I call the old-fashioned keepers – he goes down with his arms and head. Apart from his saves, he gives his defenders confidence.”
