Man Utd boss Ferguson still comfortable with Beckham sale

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson admits he is still comfortable with the sale of one of the clubs favourite sons in 2003.

David Beckham was sold to Spanish giants Real Madrid by Ferguson when he was at the top of his game but the Scottish tactician says there are no regrets as United and Beckham’s new club, AC Milan, prepare to meet in an interesting showdown in the Champions League round of 16 this month.

“No regrets. We move on,” Ferguson said of the deal.

"The only difference with David's return to Manchester United compared with other players is that there will be a big media circus surrounding him when Milan arrive.

"He's such a high-profile celebrity — not just a high-profile footballer — and we haven't really seen anybody else return to the club in that situation.

"Our job is to concentrate on the football match and let the David Beckham media circus carry on — we know we're not going to stop it anyway."

Despite the return of Beckham, Ferguson said he was looking forward to the clash with Milan regardless of if the former England captain was coming or not.

"The European Cup is always special to us and we've had some marvellous nights at Old Trafford. I just hope we have another one,” he added.

"We're away from home in the first leg, which won't be easy, but I'm certain the tie will be decided back at Old Trafford."
