Man Utd boss Ferguson planning January bid for Defour
Ferguson has been tracking the midfield sensation for more than 12 months and believes the 22-year-old Belgium international can become the long-term successor to Paul Scholes at Old Trafford, says the Daily Star.
Ferguson sent Defour a letter of encouragement over the leg break which ruled him out for much of last season.
He promised to keep in touch and is now poised to open talks with Liege about a deal in the January window.
Defour is still easing his way back from his injury, but Ferguson has sought assurances the player will get back to full fitness.
