Stephen Ireland, the Republic of Ireland midfielder, could return to international football next year, according to the Manchester City star’s father, reports Setanta.

Ireland’s father, Michael, says that he is ready to play for his country again.

"The country needs him, he’s a good player and he’ll go back in his own time," said Michael Ireland, who was speaking to the Irish Daily Star Sunday.

“He’s just focusing on his family right now and Man City. He’s keeping his head down but he’ll be back hopefully next year.
