Man City target Terry to hold more Abramovich talks today over Chelsea future
John Terry will hold a new round of talks with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich today.
The Daily Mail says Abramovich met the defender over the weekend to discuss the continuing interest from Mark Hughes' Manchester City, but talk of a new deal has been dismissed.
They will meet again today as Chelsea make a last ditch attempt to persuade Terry that his future remains at Stamford Bridge.
He already earns £135,000 a week and the club claim he is one of the best-paid players in the country when bonuses are taken into account.
Chelsea have pointed out repeatedly that his contract still has three years to run and insist they will not be drawn into a bidding war with a club who would add £25,000 a week to his basic wage if he moved.
Terry has been unimpressed by the way Chelsea have handled City's interest in him and the latest stand-off will do nothing to dent Hughes' growing optimism about getting his man.
City have already had a £30million offer turned down by Chelsea in the past 10 days and have been told that he is not for sale. However, it is understood that City continue to receive encouraging indications from the Terry camp that the 28-year-old is very interested in a move.
They will make another bid to try to convince Chelsea to sell if Terry hands in a transfer request or makes it clear publicly that he is finally ready to leave Stamford Bridge after spending his entire career at the club.
