Man City to go global in search for talent

Manchester City are to open up academy centres around the world, beginning with one in Abu Dhabi, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The club plans to attract top players from the region and bring them through along the same model as the Platt Lane nursery, which has provided 27 first-team players - including last season's club Player of the Year Stevie Ireland.

After Abu Dhabi, the club is expected to turn its attentions to North America.

The expansion of the Academy will be overseen by Jim Cassell, who has masterminded the evolution of the Blues' much-admired set-up.

Chief executive Garry Cook said: "Our academy is one of the highlights, if not the highlight, of the football club.

"It is one of the best in the country, and we have the best man leading it in Jim.

"When you have something like the City Academy, with the success it has had, and the infrastructure built by Jim and his team, it makes a lot of sense to take that overseas."
