Man City defender Lescott: New arrivals have added edge to training

Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott says the new signings have added an extra edge to training.

The 27-year-old says that the enhancement of the squad has helped to put a fresh edge on this week’s return to training – which he had been led to believe would be a player’s nightmare!

“I have been as excited as any of the supporters by the new signings, but I was excited about what City were doing even when I was at Everton,” Lescott told the Manchester Evening News.

“I remember when Robinho signed I just thought ‘Wow, Robinho in the Premier League!’ Then there was Kaka as well, even though we didn’t get him.

“I was excited, not because I thought I would play with them, but because I’m a football fan, and you want to play with and against the best in the world.

“The three players we have signed are all world-class, so I knew about them before the World Cup. But it’s exciting – I love to see who we are signing and I’m grateful just to be a part of it.

“Silva has been with Valencia and won things. We already have Adam Johnson, but Silva will give us the balance of having two left-footed players, now Martin Petrov has left.

“Yaya is also exciting for us. The protection he gives a defence is immense, so hopefully he can put another three years on my career!

“Jerome looks naturally gifted and can play with both feet. He will add to the competition in defence, but it’s healthy competition, and I’m sure the gaffer will see fit to change things when necessary.”
