Man City 2-1 Newcastle: City jump to second
Manchester City have gone second on the table after a fractious meeting with Newcastle United at Eastlands.
City skipper Carlos Tevez got things rolling in the 18th minute when he converted a penalty but the lead lasted just six minutes when Magpies’ Argentine international Jonas Gutierrez hit back with a powerful shot after controlling a Vincent Kompany clearance.
Newcastle had rallied well after the 8th minute injury to new recruit Hatem Ben Arfa which had him with the oxygen mask and a feared extended time on the sidelines but 15 minutes from time there was more heartache for the Toon when Adam Johnson produced his second City winner in a week.
The former Middlesbrough man netted within three minutes of his introduction to give City a victory that sent them above both Arsenal and Manchester United.
