Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has admitted he regrets his actions when he stamped on former teammate Robin van Persie.

The Togo international was embroiled in controversy in the mid-September clash against ex-club Arsenal for his stomp on van Persie and his reaction towards Gunners fans after he scored.

He received a three-game ban for his actions and now understands it was the wrong thing to do.

"It's one of the things that you can't do in football. That's for sure,” Adebayor told the Evening Standard.

"It's true that if someone did that to me it would annoy and hurt me. I regret it, for sure."
