Maccabi Haifa’s Krupnik joins New York Red Bulls

New York Rd Bulls have completed the signing of defender Leo Krupnik from Israeli club Maccabi Haifa.

New York Rd Bulls have completed the signing of defender Leo Krupnik from Israeli club Maccabi Haifa.

The 29-year old will not be added to the Red Bulls playing list until after the international transfer window opens tomorrow (Wednesday).

Krupnik commenced his professional career with MLS club MetroStars (before they became the Red Bulls) in 2002 but failed to make a first team appearance and said he was keen to return to the US due to economic problems in Israel.

"I had an opportunity to come here. I asked for a release there and that's the story,'' said Krupnik.

"I was just trying to get back to the U.S. I was in Isreal for four years and the economic situation there has started going downhill. And it was an opportunity for my wife and my family. I thought it was a good opportunity to come back to New York.''
