Liverpool veteran Carragher: Next England manager should be English

Liverpool veteran Jamie Carragher says the next manager of England should be English.

Carra remains a supporter of Fabio Capello but says that putting foreigners in charge undermines the international game.

"After this we should have an English manager," Carragher told the Mail on Sunday.

"I just think we should always have one because it's cheating in a way. If we couldn't score goals, are we allowed to get Italy's centre forward? 'We're not, are we? Or get Gianluigi Buffon in goal?

"People say English managers aren't good enough but it doesn't matter. The point of international football is you have the best players, the best coach, the best kit man, the best physio.

"The best manager in England deserves the right to manage England. I don't think it should be a case of 'Oh, McClaren doesn't work so we go foreign then next time we go back to being English'.

"'I just think he should be English."
