Liverpool, Man City keen to open talks with Chelsea contract rebel Cole

Joe Cole is edging closer to the Chelsea exit door.

Joe Cole is edging closer to the Chelsea exit door.

The Daily Express says Cole’s position at Chelsea is growing more tenuous by the day. England midfielder Cole, who has had a miserable season, wants to be in the same wage bracket as Michael Ballack and Michael Essien on about £120,000 a week, but Chelsea are refusing to budge on their offer of £100,000.

If things cannot be resolved, the FA Cup final against Portsmouth at Wembley on May 15 could be the last game in a Chelsea shirt for Cole.

Liverpool and Manchester City have been linked with moves for Cole, 28, who will be out of contract in June, as have his old club West Ham, Everton and Tottenham.
