Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has been passed fit to face Lyon but Fernando Torres is definitely out of the crunch Champions League clash, reports the Daily Mail.

Gerrard missed the defeat at Sunderland on Saturday after picking up a groin injury on international duty with England.

The Reds are desperate to bounce back from their Champions League defeat to Fiorentina last month.

The Spanish hitman has been struggling with an abductor injury and also missed the 1-0 loss at Sunderland.

Boss Rafa Benitez said: "Gerrard is now fine, he has trained normally today and will play against Lyon. But Fernando is not close enough to fitness to be considered. He will miss this one but I hope he will be OK to play against Manchester United next weekend."
