Liverpool fume as bookmakers take bets on next player to be burgled
Liverpool are furious with bookmakers for taking bets on the next player to have his house burgled.
However, the bookies have now shelved their plan after a furious protest from the club, reports today's Liverpool Echo.
The matter is also believed to have been reported to police by angry fans.
A Liverpool spokesman said: "It was completely tasteless and disgraceful to take bets like this.
"The club had absolutely no knowledge of it and as soon as it was brought to our attention we made contact with Paddy Power and insisted the market was closed and removed from the website.
"By coincidence our corporate agreement with paddy Power comes to an end tomorrow."
