Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is confident of closing a deal for Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The Independent says Benitez is interested in bringing former Premier League winner Van Nistelrooy to the club with the Dutchman also keen to make the switch to Merseyside.
Van Nistelrooy also is a target for Arsenal, but would prefer a move to Anfield where he could form an exciting partnership with Fernando Torres.
Liverpool would prefer an initial loan deal for the ex-Manchester United striker, but Real want an outright sale.

bring on Ruud- he scores for fun & shows up right time right place- perfect foil for Torres because he attracts loads of attention himself. Bring this guy 2 Anfield all day.
