Liverpool almost lifted themselves out of the relegation zone with a much-needed 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers at Anfield on Sunday.

The Reds hit the front in the 48th minute when Greek defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos netted his second in three games with a customary header from a Steven Gerrard corner but the visitors were quickly back on level terms when El-Hadji Diouf’s 52nd minute shot was cleared off the line by Paul Kochesky but only as far as Jamie Carragher and the deflection off the veteran went into the back of his goal.

But thankfully, Liverpool had some luck almost immediately when Fernando Torres side-footed home Joe Cole’s cross in the 54th minute to make it 2-1 which was enough to see his side record just their second win of the season.
