Lineker insists Man Utd's Ferdinand will be okay

England legend Gary Lineker says the shaky form of Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand yesterday shouldn't be a concern.

Discussing Ferdinand's performance in England's defeat to Ukraine, Lineker said in his column for the Mail on Sunday: "People will point the finger at Ferdinand, for the misjudgment which gave Ukraine their penalty came on the back of other recent high-profile errors - for England against Holland and in the Manchester derby.

"But I don't share the concern. Ferdinand is a big-tournament player clearly feeling his way back from different injuries and that takes time.

"He needs a run of games to get his match legs and if there are no niggles from yesterday's match, I think he should be involved again against Belarus on Wednesday night because that is what he needs.

"Once he gets games, he will be fine."
