Less is more for West Brom boss Di Matteo

Roberto Di Matteo believes that training, rather than friendlies, will be the key to West Bromwich Albion’s season – as the Baggies start their week-long stay in Holland.

The Baggies will spend this week training in Mierlo, near Eindhoven, before taking on VVV Venlo on Saturday.

Di Matteo has opted for fewer games this year, reports the Birmingham Mail.

The Italian believes spending more time on the training field is key.

“We just want to train as much as possible,” he said.

“Training is important to us. We have six games left but we need to train.

“This week is about being in a different environment.

“You go away, it’s a change of scenery.

“We’ve got great facilities so the players can rest between morning and afternoon sessions.

“We know it can help us get more out of the players, any new players get to bond and to know each other better.

‘‘It’s an environment that can only help.”
