Adelaide United FC supporters will have 12,161 reasons not to miss out on being at Hindmarsh Stadium for The Reds’ Round 3 blockbuster against league leaders Gold Coast United on Friday night, as the Hyundai A-League prepares to welcome its five millionth fan through the turnstiles.

With 4,987,839 fans already passing through the gates since the Hyundai A-League started back in 2005, if United get past the magic 12,161 figure on Friday night, one lucky Reds supporter will become the league’s five millionth spectator.

To celebrate the milestone, which will come in less than five years of the league being in existence, Football Federation Australia (FFA) will offer 'number 5 million' a trip for two to Melbourne to see the Qantas Socceroos’ 'do or die' AFC Asian Cup qualifier against Oman on Wednesday, 14 October 2009.

The signs are promising of the record taking place on Friday night at Hindmarsh Stadium after 13,847 were at the Reds’ opening home match of the season against Perth Glory, coupled with the hype surrounding Gold Coast United, who sit on top of the table after comprehensive victories in the opening two rounds, their squad comprising of major drawcards Qantas Socceroo Jason Culina and current Hyundai A-League leading scorer Shane Smeltz.

It was just under a year ago that Adelaide United reached one million spectators at the club’s combined home and away matches in the Hyundai A-League, and with the club to host a record 50th home match in the Hyundai A-League on Friday night (more than any other club), it would be befitting that the 5,000,000th spectator would be a Reds supporter.

If the crowd at Hindmarsh Stadium does not reach 12,161 on Friday night, the five million milestone will likely come at Bluetongue Stadium in Gosford when the Central Coast Mariners host Sydney FC on Saturday.

Therefore Adelaide United FC is encouraging fans to turn out in their droves on Friday night and join in the celebration of reaching five million and hopefully a win over Gold Coast United.

Tickets for the match, plus Adelaide United 2009/10 memberships are available now through Venue*Tix (call 8225 8888, online at www.venuetix.com.au, or at any Venue*Tix outlet, including the Adelaide United office located at 4a Manton Street, Hindmarsh).

Kick-Off is at 7.30pm with gates opening at 4.30pm for the curtain raiser between an Adelaide United FC Youth Select Team and Northern Territory U/20 Select Team.
