Adam Kwasnik produced a hat-trick last night as the Central Coast Mariners began life well under new coach Graham Arnold.

The Mariners brushed aside ACT Premier League club Canberra FC 4-0 in cold conditions in Canberra with Kawsnik and fellow striker Daniel McBreen providing the goals.

Kwasnik’s goals – a close range tap-in, a powerful header and a neat finish from a McBreen cross – came in the 18th, 36th and 53rd minutes whilst McBreen’s spot-kick was converted in the 54th minute to essentially end the game.

Arnold said he was delighted by the performance of his team, particularly some of the younger players he hadn’t seen much of.

“There were a lot of young boys I hadn’t seen much of in the last couple of months I had been away and I was happy. We only worked on our midfield shape this morning with a narrow diamond and it was quite good," said Arnold.

“We had six or seven players sitting in the dressing room who are normally first team players, so the depth of the squad has improved a lot. I thought the overall attitude and intensity was very good.

“We have another game on Wednesday night, and it will be a different team to give the other boys a run, and it’s great while we’re down here to have a good training camp, good fields, good competition to play against. I can’t thank the Canberra people enough for having us down here at such short notice after our trip to China was called off and to organise these two games quickly for us has been great, (Capital Football) has done superbly to organise it so quickly.”
