Juventus GM Marotta defends summer market campaign
Juventus general manager Beppe Marotta has defended their summer market campaign.
Marotta has been criticised for his failure to add any big names to Juve's squad.
When asked to reveal how he would respond to his critics, Marotta said: “That we have signed 11 players! Practically a team. And of these 11 players, four are now with their respective national teams.
“We have three objective: Rejuvenating the team but with players who are already rich in experience at the highest level, renewing the atmosphere, and lowering the wage bill.
“We have realised all of them and managed to complete the squad.”
Marotta was then pressed on the one that got way, Edin Dzeko, the Wolfsburg striker.
“We consider him to be a player who can make the difference and we did everything. It was within our abilities to bring him to Juve.
“Unfortunately (Uli) Hoeness showed himself to be unmovable,” Marotta concluded.

Selling Diego and losin 9 mill. was a HUGE mistake. He improved a lot i preseason and EL. Even in a 442 system he could function as a playmaker in front of Melo and with Marchisio and Krasic as wingers. Or as a second striker with Marchison in midfield and Pepe as a winger. Bonucci was worth the money, Krasic a bit of a gamble compred to a more proven David Silva. Then we splashed out milions on a lot of average players. I would have prefered Villa and Bonucci and then young players like Traore on loan. Juventus continue with players who are not world class material, top 100, but meant for Sampdoria who are fighting for a 4-6 spot in Serie A. Look at this team anno 2010 and compare it to Juventus anno 2005 with Thuram, Nedved, ADP, Trezeguet, Camoranessi, Buffon and even Zidane not so long ago. They bought Krasic for 15 mill. and Matinez for 12 mill. when Madrid signed Ozil for 15. In the future Juventus must splask out between 40-50 and TWO world stars and count on young players like Giovinco and perhaps Traore. If Juventus win EL or Serie A and qualify for CL next year Moratta might be right with his transfers. Hopefully the new stadium & CL next year will attract new super stars...
they got rid of the terrible donkey deigo in the move of the transfer window
I believe Morotta did a good job this summer. We have signed 11 players, but 7 of those are on loan, which gives us the option to return them at the end of the season. Of the players we have bought outright, Storari was statistically the best goalkeeper in Serie A last season,
Motta and especially Bonucci, could become fixtures for the national side for the next decade Pepe and Jorge Martinez, when fit again, deserve time to prove their worth. Milos Krasic could be the ace in the pack though. He may need time to settle into the Italian League, but then so did the mighty Pavel and Krasic's direct, strong running style could be devastating. Aquilani was a class act at Roma and he could easily be the same for Juve. Quagliarella has been a consistant double figure scorer over the last few seasons and I am sure he will do the same for the Bianconeri. Traore will do a good job, he is strong and quick and will fit in well. Rinaudo and Camilleri are young and will be mainly squad players. Obviously missing out on Dzeko was disappointing, but there really wasn't much more Morotta could have done. Dzeko wanted to move to Juventus, and only Juventus, but Wolfsburg just wouldn't sell. I'm sure he will arrive next summer, we want him, he want's Juventus and it will happen. So let's give everyone a chance and not be so judgemental so early. FORZA JUVE!!!
