Australian goalkeeper Brad Jones will not return to South Africa to be a part of the Socceroos’ World Cup campaign.

Australian goalkeeper Brad Jones will not return to South Africa to be a part of the Socceroos’ World Cup campaign.

The 28-year old Middlesbrough man is in France tending to his four-year old son Lucas who has been diagnosed with leukaemia and has confirmed he will remain there throughout the five weeks of treatment.

“The World Cup is irrelevant for me now,” Jones admitted.

"When I walked into the room and Luca smiled when he saw me, that was worth more than anything the World Cup could ever give me.

"The treatment will last for five weeks and I want to be here as much as I can."

Adelaide United stopper Eugene Galekovic has been brought in to replace Jones following an all-clear from FIFA.
