Italy World Cup captain Cannavaro denies age was issue

Italy World Cup captain Fabio Cannavaro insists age wasn't to blame for their dismal campaign.

Many blamed 37-year-old Cannavaro as a representative of players too old to compete in the 2010 World Cup.

“We weren’t even the oldest squad there, as I saw at least four or five teams with an older average age,” insisted the defender.

“The problem was that the 2006 victory affected the whole environment around the side.”
