Ireland prepared to stay with Man City

Stephen Ireland is prepared to stay and fight for his place at Manchester City - if given assurances over his future.

The News of the World says it's believed the Irishman has become frustrated at being played out of position, and being the odd-man-out in Roberto Mancini's ultra-cautious preference for three holding midfielders.

However, he is desperate to stay put and fight for his future - as long as he hears the right noises.
