Ince sees Notts County start as work in progress

New boss Paul Ince is encouraged by the improvement Notts County have made since he took charge at Meadow Lane.

Ince has spent a lot of time trying to make Notts defensively stronger, and the hard work paid off with a clean sheet against Gateshead in the FA Cup first round on Saturday.

"We have been working hard on different things and I have seen an improvement, that's for sure," said Ince. "Keeping a clean sheet should hopefully build confidence, but it will take time to implement all I want to.

"If they can't do it we will bring other players in. That is not being ruthless, we just want a good side who can defend and pass and can get tight, be fit and organised.

"But the lads give everything they have got and I can't ask for any more from them at the moment."
