FC Dallas boss Schellas Hyndman insists that injuries to senior players has fast tracked the development of some of his key youngsters.

Following their 1-1 draw against Real Salt Lake in Utah, Dallas managed to get through to the next phase of the play-offs because of a 3-2 aggregate and Hyndman was delighted with the showing of the likes of Zach Loyd, Jackson Goncalves and Eric Alexander who have made the most of their chances this season.

“Sometimes you play players and you're not completely comfortable with them or they haven't proven themselves," Hyndman said. "But what does occur is opportunities."

Hyndman highlighted Alexander, who made it quite clear that he was determined to make it in the big time.

"He said, 'Coach, it would be good to get the games, but if I'm going to play in this league, I need to be under your eyes,' " Hyndman recalled. "What a great statement for a young player to make. ... And when the opportunities came, he excelled."
