Former New England Revolution star Steve Ralston returned to the club for the first time since retiring as a player to take up the assistant coaching role at Houston Dynamo.

Ralston admitted it was tough to not run out on the pitch in a playing capacity but was more disappointed that his new adopted club dropped points against his the team he served so well for close to a decade.

“It’s disappointing, we needed some points,’’ Ralston told the Boston Globe after the Revolution defeated the Dynamo, 1-0. “You always want to play, always feel like you can play. I’m fresh out of it, but I’m beyond that now, I know my role. After the game I went over and talked to some of the guys but their approach was to win, so was ours. If I was doing a different job, maybe. I have a lot of friends in there and I miss them.”
