Holman out of AZ Alkmaar’s Europa opener
AZ Alkmaar will be without Brett Holman for tonight’s opening Europa League group stage match.
The Dutch outfit host Moldovan club Sheriff Tiraspol in their first Group E match but will have to make do without the in-form Australian international who will miss with a calf injury.
The attacking midfielder picked up the injury on international duty in the 2-1 win over Poland last weekend where he scored the opening goal before setting up the second.
Alkmaar coach Gertjan Verbeek is well aware that Sheriff, who have been Moldovan champions for the past decade, are a very dangerous commodity.
"There are almost no players from Moldova in their squad, with the majority from Africa or Brazil,” he said.
"But those guys can play football well, so they are a dangerous team."
