New York Red Bull’s star recruit Thierry Henry opened his MLS scoring account on the weekend.

The former Arsenal and Barcelona striker powered the ball into the bottom corner in the Bulls 2-0 win over San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday.

Since arriving at Red Bull Arena, along with Rafael Marquez, Henry has helped orchestrate some good results for the New Yorkers, who have won three, drawn two and lost one of their past six league outings.

He said that Saturday’s win over San Jose was the best yet and was delighted to finally get off his goalscoring duck.

"We had some great games, but overall [this was] one of the best," said Henry. "It can get way better. The way we played [last night] - I'm talking about the way we're passing the ball and keeping the ball - that will be great for the future.

"It's been coming for a couple of games. It was very important to get that second goal. It was a great feeling. The fans were waiting for the goal, I was waiting for the goal. It's always important when the goal was important.”
