Guimaraes prepared to fight for Portsmouth target Nuno Assis

Portuguese club Vitoria Guimaraes are prepared to fight for Portsmouth target Nuno Assis.

Pompey are believed to be interest in the 31-year old attacking midfielder but he will not be given up easily by his current club according to president Emilio Macedo.

"The squad has been formed and we will try to keep the players that we have, unless an irrefutable offer comes our way," said Macedo on Renascenca.

"We made a huge effort to keep Nuno Assis in the team. He is a fundamental piece to the team's make-up and we will do everything we can to ensure he stays with us."

It is understood however that the player is keen for a move if things can be worked out.

"I'm keen if the money and sport aspects can be united,” said the £2million-rated midfielder.
