Grant wants wealthy benefactor to take over at Portsmouth

Portsmouth boss Avram Grant is desperate to see a Roman Abramovich-like figure take over at Fratton Park.

But Grant comes up against his former employers, Chelsea, at Fratton Park on Wednesday night managing a club which became the first from the top flight to plunge into administration last month.

While the teams are at opposite ends of the table, there is no doubt both have spent above their means in a bid to win honours.

The difference is that Abramovich's wealth meant Chelsea could afford to.

But Grant sees no problem with wealthy owners like Abramovich attempting to bankroll their sides to the top of the Premier League.

He said: "This owner (Abramovich) took the club and did more than (Jose) Mourinho and more than I did for it. We need to respect that.

"It depends on the owners and how much money they can spend.

"As I understand, Portsmouth spent more money than they could. But let's say Roman Abramovich B comes to Portsmouth and spends £100 million, I would be very happy. I would be happy with £1 million!"
