Grant to be appointed Portsmouth boss within 24 hours

Avram Grant has been offered the Portsmouth manager's job and is expected to be appointed to the role in the next 24 hours, reports The Times.

Grant, who returned to Portsmouth as director of football on October 7, has been unable to take up his duties because of delays in obtaining a work permit, a situation that is expected to change imminently.

The Israeli’s most recent match as a manager was for Chelsea against Manchester United in the 2008 Champions League final and it is likely his next game will be against the same opponents at Fratton Park on Saturday.

A source told EPSN Soccernet: "The new owners brought Avram here in case results didn't go well and, the last two games, the team were back into a losing streak. It comes a point where you have got to act, otherwise you end up with the West Brom syndrome, playing well each week, losing and going down."
