Gold Coast United’s Rees: We desperately need a win
Gold Coast United defender Kristian Rees is well aware the club needs to record their first win of the season this weekend.
United find themselves sitting second bottom on the A-League table and although they have two games in hand, Rees knows a win against league leaders Perth Glory [with new signing Bruce Djite in tow] on Sunday will go a long way to kickstarting their season.
''I feel we have the character and ability to step up, and we need to,” Rees told the Gold Coast Bulletin.
''We can't just go there and be happy to get away with a point.
''We will have (new signing) Bruce Djite making his debut, and he will do a job for us.
''Obviously with Shane Smeltz gone it changes the dynamic a bit. Bruce is a different sort of player but at 23 he's very mature.
''You get that from going overseas. He obviously learned a lot during his time in Turkey and will prove a very important signing for us.
''He has come back now after a difficult time at Genclirbirligi, and he has been doing extra work in training to sharpen up and he will be ready, even if it is not for (the full) 90 minutes.
''He might not score as many goals as Shane, but he has other strengths he can call on.''
