Gold Coast unhappy with Skilled Park surface
Gold Coast United are unhappy with the surface of their own home ground after it has been chopped up by rugby matches.
Defender Michael Thwaite and assistant coach Paul Okon believe the surface is not up to standard but concede there is not much they can do about it until the National Rugby League season is over.
"We're very disappointed in the pitch," said former Melbourne defender Thwaite.
"(But) the (Gold Coast) Titans are in control."
Okon was more descriptive of the franchise’s predicament but admitted the team would have to overcome anything put in front of them to beat league leaders Sydney FC this Saturday.
"It's nothing like Suncorp Stadium, but it's our home ground, we'll be playing in front of our home supporters, so the ground will not be an issue for us, even though we know we'd much prefer to play on a better surface," the former Socceroo skipper said.
"Skilled Park will be cut to how we want it, so even though it might not be a lush ground, it'll still be a fast surface, and that's what we like.
"We know that we want to play at a high tempo and it's up to us, even if conditions aren't there, to keep that high tempo."
