Gold Coast needs to earn the right to play a first-up home game – Packer

Queensland Roar veteran Andrew Packer believes fledgling A-League club Gold Coast United needs to make their way before being granted favours.

Queensland Roar veteran Andrew Packer believes fledgling A-League club Gold Coast United needs to make their way before being granted favours.

The comments by Packer come after the Round 1 clash for season 2009/10 between the Roar and United was moved from Skilled Park to the Roar’s Suncorp Stadium, a move which has angered United officials.

But Packer says that hard work needs to be done by the first-year club to gain such rewards.

"It should be at our ground. We are the side that has been here for four years - they should have the hard trip," he said.

"Suncorp Stadium is the best stadium in the state if not the country.

"It should be at that ground. They are a new side and it should be tough for them - they can't expect an easy game first up.

“Hopefully we get a nice big win – it would be perfect for us.”
