Gold Coast dismiss link with Nth Qld’s Fowler
Gold Coast United have dismissed their link with attempting to sign North Queensland Fury’s Robbie Fowler for the rest of the season.
Fowler had already been linked with a loan deal to Adelaide United and then his name popped up in the same sentences as Gold Coast’s but the Robina-based club confirmed that they did not plan to sign the former Liverpool star on a short-term deal.
Gold Coast have denied any potential dealings and Fury chairman Don Matheson backed up their words by saying that a deal could not be done anyway unless it was an injury replacement.
''You can't do it anyway, I don't think you can do it on an injury replacement, either, so all that talk's just a waste of time,'' Matheson said.
Fowler himself he wouldn’t be all that keen on extending the season as the Fury finish after this weekend and was hoping to begin a holiday as soon as possible.
''I've been here for a year now doing football and, regardless of what job you do, whether it's football or in an office, I think you do need a holiday,'' Fowler told the Townsville Bulletin.
''I'm due a holiday ... sometimes you do need a break from football.''
