Gold Coast chief Mensink allays collapse fears
Gold Coast United CEO Clive Mensink has allayed fears that the club is in danger of folding.
Recent media reports have suggested the club were set to collapse after attracting another poor crowd on Sunday but Mensink, although slightly worried, is confident that United will continue on as it is.
“We are getting a lot of positive feedback, though people are concerned," Mensink told The Australian yesterday.
"They are worried especially in light of what is happening with Newcastle (Jets) and they fear things might go the same way.
"As we have always done, we have reassured them that that is not the case. The decisions are being made from a sustainability point of view.
"The situation with the club has not changed. We will be here until the end of the season and beyond."
Mensink also pointed out that Gold Coast had yet to re-sign a number of players but assured that didn’t mean the club was not looking to the future.
"Yes, it is true, we have a number of players coming off contract but we have around 10 who are still contracted for next season," he added.
"We have still got to do our own due diligence and we have got until October before we start thinking about next season, re a contract point of view."
