Gold Coast boss delighted with Djite’s defensive work
Gold Coast United coach Miron Bleiberg has been delighted with the input given by new signing Bruce Djite.
The former Genclerbirligi striker has failed to score in his first three games since joining United but during that time, the team has not conceded a goal and Bleiberg puts a lot of that down to the extra work Djite does.
''I disagree with people who judge Bruce Djite on goals only because the work he puts in is much better than Shane Smeltz (the United hitman who quit for Turkish outfit Genclerbirligi last month),” Bleiberg told the Gold Coast Bulletin.
''That's one reason why we aren't conceding any goals at the moment because the defensive work starts high up the pitch.
''Maybe it was because there were two defenders on Bruce against Newcastle on Wednesday that allowed John Curtis the space to score our winner.
''Bruce will play his part and others will also score. I am not bothered where the goals come from as long as we get the job done.
''Last season we could score five one week and conceded three the next. We were a bit of a show pony. This year we are not conceding and winning 1-0.
''It's a case of steady as she goes. We are no longer hot and cold.''
