Germany’s Friedrich: England have impressed nobody
Germany defender Arne Friedrich has sent a warning shot to England saying the team has not yet impressed anybody at the World Cup.
The former Hertha Berlin man, currently a free agent, believes the Three Lions have been poor so far in the tournament but was always erring on the side of caution knowing Fabio Capello’s men are capable of producing a strong performance.
The comments come ahead of the two nation’s knockout clash in Bloemfontein on Sunday.
“I don’t think England have convinced or impressed anyone, even they would say that,” Friedrich said.
“They’ve not had the best tournament so far, in fact they’ve been poor.
“Despite that we know they are perfectly capable of doing something. They can still spark and we have to be ready. If you go through the England line-up man for man, they are probably the favourites. They have more star names in the side compared to us and because of that you’d have to give them a slight advantage.”
