Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer was praised by both his and the opposition manager following his performance in the 1-1 draw with Wigan on Sunday.

The Cottagers earned a point on the road after falling behind in the 15th minute but it could have been worse for the visitors if it wasn’t for the Australian international shot-stopper.

Schwarzer made a number of crucial saves for his side, prompting Fulham manager Roy Hodgson to sing his praises after his performance against a string Wigan team.

"Wigan are a very good team, and the players showed a lot of character and determination - so I have to be really happy with a point,” Hodgson said.

"It was more a 3-3 game than a 1-1, and Mark Schwarzer had to bring off some spectacular saves from their long-range shooting."

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez said the difference between his side winning and losing was clearly the brilliance of Schwarzer.

"I'm happy with the performance, but not the point,” the Spaniard said.

"If you look at the amount of chances we created we wanted to get all three. The difference between one point and three was Mark Schwarzer - his display was outstanding."
