Fresh financial concerns at Hull City

There are new financial concerns at Hull City.

The Sunday Times says Hull’s accounts for 2008-09 — their first season in the Premier League under manager Phil Brown — warn that if they were relegated they face a £21m financial shortfall and could be forced to sell players to plug the gap.

Hull, who lost 2-1 at home to Arsenal last night, are languishing in 19th place with just eight games remaining. The warning from accountants Deloitte stresses the urgent need for Hull to change their financial structure. The club increased turnover by more than 400% to £51m and made pre-tax profits of £2m, but even if they avoid relegation they must find an additional £16m to balance the books.
