North Queensland Fury chairman Don Matheson has insisted that star striker Robbie Fowler will see out his contract with the club.

North Queensland Fury chairman Don Matheson has insisted that star striker Robbie Fowler will see out his contract with the club.

As rumours of a rift between Fowler and Fury coach Ian Ferguson emerge, Matheson has moved quickly to assure all North Queensland and Fowler fans that he is not going anywhere.

“Robbie is the heart and soul of this club,” Matheson told The World Game.

“He’s leaving over my dead body and I own and run the club, so that’s where that all finishes. Robbie’s an outstanding lad and a great footballer, probably the best thing that has happened to the A-League to date.

“He’s a great team man and we all think the world of him and his family.”

Matheson added that he knew nothing of a rift between coach and player and said if there was, it would already be dealt with.

“None that has been presented to me. Robbie is here for two years,” Matheson added.

“I guarantee him that. He’s an extraordinary professional and if I thought he wasn’t playing as well as he could I’d raise it with him and I haven’t done that.

“I’m sure the coach has his expectations and they’ll work through that. If I thought there was an issue I’d deal with in a flash.”
