Manchester United keeper Ben Foster is on the brink of agreeing terms with Birmingham City after the two clubs agreed a transfer deal worth around £5 million, revealed his agent.

The 27 year old has struggled to force his way past Edwin van der Sar in the United pecking order, and Birmingham boss Alex McLeish sees him as a perfect replacement for Joe Hart, whose season-long loan stay at the club from Manchester City ended last week.

His agent Lee Payne confirmed that he expected his client to agree a contract with the St Andrews club early next week.

"We are close to agreeing a deal," Payne told Sky Sports.

"The two clubs have agreed a fee and given us permission to talk to Birmingham.

"We fully expect the deal to be completed either this weekend or the start of next week."
