Former Willem II’s Zois wins VPL keeper of season award

South Melbourne goal keeper Peter Zois has won the Victorian Premier League award for goalkeeper of season for 2010.

Zois, currently back-up keeper with A-League club Melbourne Heart, played for South Melbourne in the late 1990’s before a long career in Holland firstly with NAC Breda and then Willem II Tilburg.

Zois’s team mate Fernando De Morales took out the VPL Player of the Season award capping off a memorable night for the former NSL powerhouse club.

After promising so much at the start of this season’s VPL, South Melbourne missed out on the play-offs despite having a star-studded squad coached by former Kiwi international Vaughan Coveny.

South Melbourne only just last week replaced Coveny with Australian football legend Eddie Krncevic and assistant Joe Montemurro. The new coaching staff will now prepare the team for their quarter-finals against Bangkok Glass in the prestigious Singapore Cup on October 4.
