Football personalities caught up in phone-tap scandal

The Manchester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, and the former Newcastle United chief Alan Shearer are among those whose private telephone messages were recorded by a private investigator working for the News of the World, according to sources familiar with the police investigation.

Both men are said to have left messages on the mobile phone of Gordon Taylor, the chief executive of the Professional Footballers' Association, who sued the newspaper last year.

Messages that were intercepted are said to have referred to the Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger; medical bills incurred by the former England player Paul Gascoigne; the former England midfielder Jamie Redknapp; and a prominent Premier League player who had a cocaine problem.

The Guardian revealed that Taylor was paid more than £700,000 in damages and costs by the News of the World's owner, Rupert Murdoch's News Group, to settle his legal action without a public hearing.

Two other figures from the world of football also sued and were paid a further £300,000.

who is talking abt bribe and corrupt.... did the scousers heard anything abt the grobbelaar case ? oops... no ... yeah.. heard ... or ur ears are deaf... hahaha proven case with video...the spider man keeper Bruce grobbelaar won many titles with Liverpool.. maybe now we know how they won those titles... bribes .... if they accept it..then why they never ... its all part of liverpool game too... thats why they say u will never walk alone..now u know... they never walk alone... they walk with bribed $$$$$$..... hahhahahahaha loserfools... and look at the new farkin type signing johnson said... he said they will win title.... this is what he told when he was with chelsea... fark type man... chelsea dumped him and he ended up with loserfools...

EVERYONE knows that man u are corrupt, this story is OLD news how do you think spurs felt at the end of last season when the ref took the game from them? Man u are the most undeserving wnners ever to grace the game because they sacrifice morals and fair play for success. They are just lowly cheats who may be champions but they will never be respected
