Finals-like match puts pressure on Gold Coast – Melbourne’s Thompson
Melbourne Victory striker Archie Thompson believes a finals-like meeting with Gold Coast United tomorrow night favours his side.
The reigning champions know what finals are all about and will go into the Skilled Park clash full of confidence as a lot of the pressure has now fallen on their opponents.
Both Melbourne and Gold Coast are chasing a top-two finish and with the Victory sitting pretty on top of the table, Thompson says the two-time A-League champions hold a slight advantage.
''If we get a good result it puts pressure on the two that are chasing and hopefully cements a top-two position which is what we want coming into the finals,'' he said.
''There's probably more pressure on [Gold Coast] than us, because we're top of the table and they're three points behind us, and we can potentially go six points [clear]. The pressure's on them.''
Melbourne take on Gold Coast in Robina tomorrow night – kick-off is at 7:30pm local time (8:30pm AEDT).
