Man City lost for the first time this season when referee Mike Dean awarded a penalty at the death when Micah Richards had impeded Darren Bent as he strived to get to Ahmed Al Muhammadi’s cross.

The Black Cats striker stepped up to the plate and put it past City keeper Joe Hart to give the home side maximum points when they were seemingly unlikely pre-match.
