FIGC chief Albertini calls for Serie A reserves comp

FIGC chief Demetrio Albertini has declared Serie A needs a reserve league.

The former AC Milan midfield star Albertini insists young players would benefit from a second tier comp.

“In Serie A, B, the youth teams and even Lega Pro there are too many foreign players,” warned Albertini in La Repubblica newspaper.

“They represent a limitation to the growth of our young talent. In my view, the existence of youth academies is no longer sufficient.

“We need entire reserve teams, as they already do in Spain, who can play regularly in a professional league.

“In order to grow, these youngsters must measure themselves up against players who are older than they are, not the same age.”

finally some common sense from the FIGC. No doubt about the quality of the Primavera comp but after the players turn 20, the clubs are forced to farm them out to Serie B,C for experience. They tend to languish for a couple of years and only a select few get back into view of the big clubs. At least having them at their home club in a reserves comp will keep them insight of management and give them more experience against open age players.
