FIFA could wreck Griffiths deal for Adelaide Utd

Adelaide United's deal for Australia defender Adam Griffiths could be scuppered by FIFA's draconian transfer laws.

Griffiths, unveiled on Wednesday as the club's latest AFC Champions League squad hopeful, may be forced to miss the tournament because he has signed contracts with three clubs in the past 12 months.

FIFA's ruling states that while players may be registered for three clubs in a year from July 1 until June 30 the next year the player is only eligible to play official matches for two clubs.

A-League chief Archie Fraser last night revealed the Football Federation Australia was waiting for FIFA and AFC clarification on the hard man's eligibility for the Champions League, says The Advertiser.
